The Single Speed European Championships - Castlewellan

25 April - 27 April

Single Speeders, get ready for SSEC2014!

Those of you who have been to SSEC before will know what lies ahead, and we hope you are looking forward to it as much as we are. If you have not experienced SSEC before, then you are in for a real treat – a weekend full of bikes, friends, laughter, food and drink, camping, fancy dress and fun.  It has a relaxed low-key vibe, but you need to be part of it to really feel it.

If you want to come along for the weekend to support those you love, but you have no desire to cycle yourself, you are still welcome, of course. Visitor Passes Available!

If you don’t currently ride a single speed mountain bike (i.e. with no gears - it can be a whole different challenge), and yet you’d like to ride SSEC, then you have three options:
 1. Get a single speed bike – quite expensive or very expensive!
 2. Convert an existing geared bike to single speed – quite easy!
 3. Bring your geared bike to SSEC and we will do a fast conversion for you – very lazy!

Option 3 is tolerated but not encouraged!

If you are completely new to single speeding as a concept, it will remind you of biking as a kid again – freedom, simplicity, and not a care in the world!  And do be aware that single speeders actually have THREE gears in one:  Sit down and pedal, stand up and pedal, get off and walk – and all three will be required by everyone in Castlewellan...

One of the things we will do as part of the weekend is pass the SSEC host trophy over to the following year’s SSEC organisers.  We have some fun things planned for the weekend to decide who that host country is going to be, so if you want your country to host SSEC in 2015, then you need to be ready to get involved!  More information about this in April.

Castlewellan is a truly amazing place, SSEC is a truly amazing event, and we think that both together will help to create an unforgettable weekend for all who attend.

If you have questions, suggestions or any other feedback for us as we plan SSEC2014, then please just send us an email to info@mountainbikeni.com.  We would love to hear from you.
