Twelfth of July Festivities and Parades

13 July
Monday 13th July – Throughout Northern Ireland

Bessbrook, Country Armagh, is the location for this year’s Flagship Twelfth of July celebration.

Now regarded as the largest gathering of Orangemen, this year’s demonstration in Bessbrook will consist of 11 District Lodges, 154 private lodges, and almost 5,000 participants and is expected to attract upwards of 15,000 spectators. Accompanying the lodges will be approximately 80 bands, consisting of some of the finest pipe, accordion, sliver and flute bands from throughout Northern Ireland. Also, as the ‘County of the Diamond’ is renowned for the Lambeg Drum, a large number of the traditional instruments will be adding much sound to the occasion.

The day will start at 8am at Bessbrook Orange Hall where the lodges of the host District will assemble, before being joined from 9.30am onwards by the other visiting Districts with the main parade setting off at 9.45am to go to the demonstration field on the Maytown Road, where the afternoon proceedings will commence at 1.45pm. In attendance in Bessbrook will be the most senior Orangeman in Ireland, Grand Master Edward Stevenson, who will be the guest speaker at the field.

The return parade will set off from the demonstration field at 3pm.

An interesting feature to look out for in this year’s parade will be the display of at least three new banners from different lodges – which adds to the colour of the event.

As part of the pre-flagship Twelfth celebrations a number of events will take place in Bessbrook, including a ‘Songs of Praise’ in Bessbrook Town Hall (5 July); and Eleventh night celebrations in the demonstration field, including a pipe band tattoo, children’s fancy dress parade and firework display (11 July).
