About

The Sea Bangor festival will mark the 80th Anniversary of The D-Day Landing with a 1940s themed programme on Saturday 1 June (12noon – 6pm) and Sunday 2 June (1pm-6pm). This celebration of the City of Bangor’s maritime heritage returns to the seafront with nautical fun on and off the water!

Quay Street Car Park area will take on a distinctly holiday atmosphere with 1940s themed fun.

There will be lots of maritime fun - enjoy kids’ activities at the beach area, funfair rides and entertainment throughout the weekend. A great programme of music acts will bring a nostalgic feel with a lively mix of 40s favourites.

*Sea Bangor is a free to attend event. Costs may apply to some event activities.

 

Saturday and Sunday Programme

Music
Soda Popz | The sensational Soda Popz, featuring Bangor singers Michelle Baird and Adam Dougal plus local musicians, bring their high energy, nostalgic Rock'n'Roll show to the seafront this June, offering an authentic tribute to some fabulous favourites.

Leading Ladies Trio | Northern Ireland’s Premier Vocal Harmony Trio. Award-winning singers, Michelle Baird, Ceara Grehan and Lynne McAllister have performed across the UK and Ireland as The Leading Ladies for twenty years. Their unique harmony arrangements will bring you a nostalgic programme of vintage swing and 1940s classic songs.

St Columbanus traditional band will be on the Eisenhower Pier - 2pm-2.45pm

Bangor Ukes will be on the Eisenhower Pier - 3pm -4.30pm

 

Food and drink
Head to Eisenhower Pier to watch some fantastic food demo’s at the Demo Kitchen where chefs from the local college, SERC, will be creating tasty dishes using fresh local produce to give you inspiration to take home and try for yourself!

Pick up some delicious treats from a variety of hot food trucks, ice-cream, and even an outdoor bar!

 

Family fun
With traditional Punch and Judy shows, craft activities with 1940s theme, walkabout entertainers, and bookable on the water activities (details below) ​​​​​​.​

Hop on the free land train from the McKee Clock along the promenade,  grab a selfie with our South Eastern Regional College students in 1940s themed costumes outside the Old Market House and the Sea Bangor Festival site and enjoy family fun with the Sea Bangor City Passport.

Sea Bangor City Passport - visit 14 locations, get your passport stamped and enjoy activities and giveaways to entertain the kids (see below for more details).

 

Craft Fair | The Old Market House, Main Street Bangor 
Saturday (12noon – 6pm) and Sunday (1pm – 6pm)
Browse and buy at the two-day craft fair showcasing a range of producers. 

 

On the Water Activities​​​

Enjoy wonderful on the water activities at the Sea Bangor Festival, from pre-bookable 'Have a Go' sessions to viewing of on the water demonstrations, rowing competitions and boat trips, there is lots of fun to be had throughout the weekend.

Sea Bangor City Passport 
Saturday 1 June | 11am – 5pm | Bangor multiple locations
On Saturday 1 June, pick up your Sea Bangor City Passport to enjoy lots of fun at locations around the city centre.

Visit 14 locations around the city and get your passport stamped at each participating business * check individual store timings*.

From food, music and crafts to gaming, art and clothes, all participating retailers will have activities or giveaways to entertain the kids who visit their shops.

Enjoy 1940s themed treats, dress up, colouring in and fun freebies!

Then bring your completed passport to Bangor Visitor Information Centre, 34 Quay Street, BT20 5ED to claim your prize on Saturday 1 June until 5pm.

Passports will be available from 11am on Sat 1 June at Bangor Visitor Information Centre, Quay Street, the Visitor Information Caravan at the entrance to the event site or in any of the participating businesses.  

Passport activities are free, but are subject to change and availability.

Sunday Only

McKee Clock Arena  - Military Village | 1pm - 6pm 

Enjoy a range of activities in multiple tents and take an up-close look at the vehicles. There will be stage programme of music, including performances by Salvation Army and Harmonic Sounds:

2:00pm – 2:45pm  – The Salvation Army Brass Band
3:30pm -  5:30pm – Harmonic Sounds Brass Band

Sea Bangor Military Passport 
McKee Clock Arena - Military Village | 1pm - 6pm

Pick up your Sea Bangor Military Passport on Sunday 2 June and take on the special mission, visit seven numbered units within the Military Village in McKee Clock Arena and get your passport stamped at each participating unit. 

Passports will be available from 1pm at Bangor Visitor Information Centre, Quay Street and the Visitor Information Caravan at the entrance to the event site ay Quay Street Carpark.

Bring your completed passport to the Visitor Information Caravan at the entrance to the Sea Bangor event site ay Quay Street Carpark, BT20 5ED to claim your prize.

Ards and North Down Borough Council 80th D-Day Landing Programme

Please note:

This event is a no drone zone. Only official event drones authorised by the event organisers are permitted.

- Quay Street Car Park will be closed from Tuesday 28 May, reopening on Wednesday 5 June to allow for set up and take down of the event.

- Eisenhower Pier will be closed -Thurs 30 May –Tue 4 June to facilitate the Sea Bangor Festival. (No one is permitted to climb on the pier wall during the event).

Sustainability
Ards and North Down Borough Council is committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We encourage visitors to travel via public transport, there are fresh water stations on site bring along refillable water bottles, reusable bags to pick up goodies at the event and please dispose rubbish in the correct bins when on-site.
