Laurel Villa Guest House (Seamus Heaney Exhibition)

New Seamus Heaney interpretive centre set for Bellaghy

25 January

One of our most famous literary sons will be honoured with the development of a new interpretive centre in the village of his burial.

World renowned poet Seamus Heaney, who died last August, is buried in the village of Bellaghy, near Magherafelt.  His poetic descriptions of rural life in Bellaghy and the surrounding area employ some of the most exquisite words written in the last century.

The new Heaney Interpretive Centre, which will stand on the site of the village's former police station, will house a permanent exhibition of Seamus Heaney artefacts, including books and manuscripts.  It will also provide a community resource facility that can be used by various groups.
