Archery with dad in Northern Ireland

Active and Sports-Mad Dad

Want to get dad's adrenalin pumping? Treat him to a taster session at one of our top outdoor activity providers - there are even special themed events planned over Father's Day.  Alternatively, if your dad is more of a spectating type, there are some great sporting events coming up for a great day out.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

• Bring dad (and the whole family) along to Father's Day at The Jungle NI, Moneymore where he can try his hand at numerous exciting options including zorbing, archery, llama trekking and segway riding.

• Particularly adventurous dads might want to have a go at kitesurfing - the most extreme water sport to hit the beaches.  NI Kitesurfing on the Ards Peninsula in County Down are holding introductory sessions on Saturdays in June, if you think your dad is up for the challenge.  Alternatively take him along to Dad's Coasteering Adventure hosted by Ardclinis Outdoor Adventure on the North Antrim coast, and push the limits of his bravery with cliff-jumping challenges.

• For a less particapatory but equally exhilarating experience, treat your dad to a Father's Day Strangford Sea Safari RIB Boat Trip, departing from Strangford, County Down.  Highlights include Angus Rock Lighthouse, the seal colonies at Cloghy Rocks Nature Reserve, the Great Whirlpools at the famous ‘Routen Wheel’ and Europe's first electricity generating tidal turbine.

• For a memorable Father's Day excursion bring your dad to Castle Espie near Comber for Fathers Go Feral on 15 June, and camp overnight in the woods learning bushcraft skills.

• If your dad's a speed junkie, take him rally driving, off-road driving or karting.  Options include Superdrive Motorsports Centre near Portadown in County Armagh, Todds Leap near Ballygawley in County Tyrone or Campsie Karting Centre near Lodonderry/Derry.

•  If your father is a sports fan but of the spectating type, don't worry - there are plenty of top events coming up for a great day out. Ideas include the Ulster GAA Hurling Senior Championship between Down and Armagh (16 June), the Summer Festival of Racing at Down Royal Racecourse near Lisburn (21 - 22 June), the Enniskillen 100 Revival motorcyle event in County Fermanagh (22 June), and the Trialstar Mororcycle Trials Show in Belfast (22 - 23 June).
