Benone Beach

Benone Beach stretches for over 7 miles from Downhill westwards to where it meets Magilligan Point at the mouth of Lough Foyle and forms part of one of Ireland's longest beaches. A Blue Flag beach, it is popular throughout the year for a variety of outdoor activities and events with great views along the North Coast, to Inishowen in Donegal and to Scotland.

RNLI Beach Lifeguards on duty at Easter, weekends in April, May, June & September.  Daily in July & August 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. This beach has a zoning system and buoys in place.

Facilities: Cafe / Restaurant, Car Parking, Caravan Park, Dogs Allowed, Lifeguard Service, Picnic Sites, Telephone, Toilets, Tourist Information / Visitor Centre, Vehicle Access. The following facilities are available for users with limited mobility: a shop with wheelchair access, disabled toilets and disabled parking. Water quality is Excellent. Awards: Blue Flag.

The beach and dune land fall within the Magilligan ASSI and SAC. It is also a Local Nature Reserve. Boardwalks provide access through the dune land. Also look out for seals, porpoises and bird life.

Benone Strand is located off the Causeway Coastal Route on the Seacoast Rd (A2), 12 miles north of Limavady and 4 miles west of Castlerock.

The 134 bus passes close to the beach and the nearest train station is Bellarena.
