Take a Short Break in Fermanagh this Autumn

With top events, stunning scenery, a fascinating history and heritage, unique shopping and first class accommodation, County Fermanagh is the ideal place to take a short break this Autumn.

Autumn Events

There are a range of great events taking place in Fermanagh over the coming weeks.  Experience the finest live entertainment and visual arts this Autumn when the county’s 5th Arts Festival, Fermanagh Live, takes place from 3 - 6 October.  The festival will highlight both local and other innovative talent while promoting Fermanagh’s culture and heritage.

Halloween Extravaganza - Enniskillen Castle MuseumsFermanagh will also host a number of fantastic Halloween events, with fun for all the family.  Enjoy the Halloween Extravaganza at Enniskillen Castle Museums, the annual fireworks display overlooking Lough Erne, take a trip on the Ghost Ship from the Share Discovery Village, or listen to Storytelling by the Fire at Florence Court.  For some ghoulish glamour, head for the hottest Halloween party in town at the Enchanted Halloween Masked Ball in the Killyhevlin Hotel (1 November).

Great Outdoors

Walking in FermanaghFor a taste of the county''s stunning landscapes, head along to the Fermanagh Walking Festival (12 - 14 October), with walks for everyone from experienced hikers to novice ramblers and families.  If you're happy to head off on your own, you could climb to the top of Cuilcagh Mountain - located within the beautiful Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark - or enjoy a gentle stroll around Castle Caldwell Forest.


If you fancy exploring one of Ireland's most important nature conservation areas - at night time - take a Noctural Tour of Crom Estate (25 October and 8 November).  Alternatively, lose yourself with a long, leisurely walk in the beautiful woodland of fellow National Trust property Castle Coole.

Rich History and Heritage

Tully CastleImmerse yourself in Fermanagh's fascinating history and heritage.  Did you know that both Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett were educated at the Portora Royal School, Enniskillen?  Take some time to explore the county's hidden gems such as Drumskinny Stone Circle, Tully Castle and Monea Castle.  For a unique experience, visit Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum to rediscover the history of the railways in Fermanagh.

Unique Retail Therapy

Belleek PotteryIf you're in need of a bit of retail therapy, then try Fermanagh this Autumn.  Pick up some local work at the Buttermarket Craft and Design Centre in Enniskillen before hitting the high street, packed with both independent and big name retailers.  No shopping visit to Fermanagh would be complete without a trip to Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre, where you can also take in a tour and stop for lunch.
